Since Gumdrops are installed on Singleton Campus we have seen staff and student talking about them! they are loving the fact that chewing gum can be recycled into many products. The gumdrops are definitely proving to be effective as getting filled quite quickly. We are hoping that the littering issue on campus will reduce with time with the magic of Pink.
Reason for having Gumdrops:
To reduce and save money on cleaning up chewing gum litter in and around the university campuses. To educate and inspire students to give gum a second life.
Number of Gumdrops installed:
Outside the main entrance of the University and along the main walkways linking the buildings
Average Gumdrop Turnover:
4 times a year
over £18,000 a year is being saved over 3 campuses
We had a great launch at Swansea University. We launched during their recycling week. We were joined by 4 university volunteers who helped the Gumdrop Team with the questionnaires as well as give out gum and badges. During the launch we ran a ‘share your drop’ competition with students sharing their drop into a Gumdrop Bin with us on Facebook and Twitter in exchange for some great Gum-tec goodies. We gave out frisbees, rulers and lunch boxes made with recycled chewing gum. These went down a treat as it was a fantastic example of how the closed loop recycling process works to recycle chewing gum and to decrease gum litter on campus. Thanks to all involved. A very successful day.
