The GUMDROPs are a cost effective and eco-friendly addition to our cleaning regime. We’ve positioned them in areas where we get high levels of gum littering such as in the toilets and near the main airport entrance. They are easy to spot and we’ve already noticed an improvement as passengers start to make use of them. - Dave Lees, Airport Managing Director.
Reason for having Gumdrops:
The airport was spending a lot of time and money attempting to clean up gum litter, this was particularly a problem outside the terminal and in the mens urinals.
Number of Gumdrops installed:
Entrances/exits, car parks, land-side and air-side inside the terminal area, toilets
Average Gumdrop Turnover:
10 days to 8 weeks
At Southampton Airport we held a launch day along with representatives from both BAA and AMEY. We had our very own costumed Gumdrop representative getting people involved with the idea by giving away chewing gum and inspiring them to then dispose of it in the new Gumdrops. We also carried out questionnaires on customers to hear about their chewing gum experiences and views on the Gumdrops in order to further educate them on how the bins work.
The launch day was hugely successful and got some great interest from local press including the local newspaper and radio helping to both promote the Gumdrops, and furthering our mission to educate the public on giving gum a second life.
